Custer's Last Stand
Medium: Oil on Panel, Size: 40"X 30"
On a hill above the Little Bighorn River, shrouded by dust and smoke, Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer and the forlorn remnants of his staff and Companies E and F of the 7th U.S. Cavalry prepare to meet the onslaught of Sioux and Cheyenne warriors led by Crazy Horse during the final minutes of the Battle of the Little Bighorn. What had begun with Custer’s great hope of a signal victory was about to end in overwhelming defeat. This day brought Custer and his command immortality but he and many gallant men on both sides paid the ultimate price for it. For the Sioux and Cheyenne, the victory only delayed the inevitable – the end of their way of life.
